Brenna R. Kelly reports:

It’s cold – so cold that the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for part of the region.

The high today is expected to reach only the mid 20s, but that temperature along with winds of 15 to 20 mph will make it feel much colder.

The Weather Service’s wind chill advisory covers most of Ohio including Butler, Warren and Clinton counties in the Greater Cincinnati area. Wind chill readings in those areas could be 15 below zero tonight, the Weather Service warned, adding that prolonged exposure could cause frostbite. The advisory is in effect from 8 tonight until 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The Weather Service’s hazardous weather outlook for the rest of the Greater Cincinnati area warns that the wind chill could reach 5 below zero tonight. The low temperature will be between 5 and 10 degrees, but the below zero feeling will last well into Tuesday morning.

In addition to the bitter cold, the Weather Service warns that a low pressure system will move across the area Thursday into Friday, bringing with it the chance for snow and ice.

“The latest indications are that there is the potential for wintry precipitation to occur with accumulations,” the Weather Service’s outlook states.
