Usual suspects draw top seeds in team event

The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced regional brackets for its inaugural wrestling dual state tournament this week.
Moeller, Harrison and Fairfield in Division I, Ross in Division II and Reading in Division III were named No. 1 seeds in their respective regionals.
First and second round matches (regional quarterfinals) of the single-elimination tournament will be held on Jan. 23. Regional semifinals will be held on Jan. 30, with the regional finals set for Feb. 6.
Eight regional winners in the three divisions will meet on Feb. 9 at Ohio State University’s St. John Arena to determine state championship teams.
Sites and times for the regional quarterfinal round will be announced on Tuesday, according to the OHSAA
Moeller, ranked No. 1 in the Enquirer coaches’ poll and No. 3 in the state coaches’ poll, heads up the Division I, Region 8A field. Loveland, which is ranked No. 2 by the area coaches and No. 10 in the state, is the second seed in that half of the Region 8 bracket followed by No. 3 Sycamore and No. 4 Glen Este.
Harrison, Elder, St. Xavier and Princeton are the top four seeds in Region 8B. Harrison is ranked No. 6 in the latest Enquirer poll and owns a 31-30 dual win against No. 5 Elder this season.
Elder is coming off a 31-23 win against No. 7 St. Xavier this past Saturday night following a loss at Moeller on Friday. St. Xavier knocked off Harrison 31-27 last week.
Fairfield is the No. 1 seed in Region 7A. The Indians are ranked No. 3 locally. Mason, ranked No. 4, is the second seed followed by Lakota East as the third seed and Lakota West as the fourth seed. The Region 7B bracket is comprised of Dayton teams, led by Centerville as the No. 1 seed.
Lakota East will face Edgewood, a six seed, on Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. at Mason High School, while Lakota West will face Springboro, a five seed, that same day and time at Fairfield High School.
Ross is the No. 1-ranked team in the Enquirer Division II-III coaches’ poll. Coach Rich Dunn’s team, led by returning state qualifiers Joseph Jones (145) and Tyler Bridwell (195), have had strong showings at the Glenn Sample Coaches Classic (placing fourth) and other larger tournaments to earn the No. 1 seed in Division II Region 15B.
New Richmond is the No. 2 seed, followed by Eaton and No. 4 seed Bethel-Tate.
Reading, coming off a win at its own Charlie Moore Invitational this past weekend, is the top seed in Division III Region 23A, ahead of No. 2 Carlisle.
Deer Park is the third seed, while Badin is seeded fourth. Reading is ranked No. 4 in the coaches’ poll.
Blanchester, ranked No. 3 locally, is the second seed in Region 23B behind New Lebanon Dixie.
Greater Miami Conference Wrestling Championship
Lakota East High School will host the 2012-2013 Greater Miami Conference Wrestling Championship on Saturday, Feb. 2.
Doors open for spectators at 9 a.m. and the first round will start at 10:00 a.m.
Ticket Prices are $6 for each session, $10 for a tournament pass for adults; $4 for each session, $6 for a tournament pass for students.
