Jennifer Edwards Baker reports:
A police chase from West Chester to Monroe with speeds exceeding 100 mph ended in a crash with injuries and an arrest overnight.
The driver and suspect, Trevon Broomfield, 21, was taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown, according to West Chester police. He is listed in serious condition and remains in custody of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The pursuit began about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when police said they received a report of a 2005 Nissan Sentra stolen from a residence.
A short time later, police spotted the car on Tylersville Road. They followed it onto northbound Interstate 75.
Once the vehicle exited onto Ohio 63 in Monroe, the officer attempted to pull it over. That’s when they say Broomfield allegedly sped off , with speeds flying over 100 mph.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol joined the chase as it continued north on Ohio 63. Troopers threw down stop-sticks at the intersection of Ohio 63 and Markay Road in an attempt to deflate the tires on the vehicle.
Broomfield avoided the sticks, but then he lost control of the vehicle. It went airborne and crashed into an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser before coming to a stop on its roof along the side of the road.
Criminal charges are pending against Broomfield.
The trooper suffered minor injuries, was treated and released.
