Both the Lakota West (5-1, 3-1 in GMC) and the Lakota East (1-5, 1-2 in GMC) girls’ basketball teams were victorious on Wednesday. West defeated Middletown, by the score of 59-24, while East earned its first win of the season with a 48-40 defeat of Colerain.
Both teams received strong performances from freshmen.
Freshman guard Nia Staples scored all of her team-high 15 points in the first half, leading Lakota West to the easy win. Teammate senior forward Rachel Tomasic added 11 points.
Meanwhile, freshman Sam Rodgers scored a career-high 16 points to lead Lakota East. Sophomore guard Leah Goodwin added 11 points and three assists off the bench.
Both teams will be in action this Saturday with games at 2 p.m. Lakota West will be at Fairfield (3-2, 2-1 in GMC), while Lakota East will host Middletown (3-3, 0-3 in GMC).
