Lakota East remains unbeaten with win against Colerain

Both the Lakota East and Lakota West boys’ basketball programs remained unbeaten with close wins on Friday night. Lakota East (4-0, 1-0 in the GMC) held on to a 51-50 victory against Colerain, while Lakota West defeated Middletown by the score of 76-72 in overtime.

Lakota East led by five points with less than two minutes remaining, however the Thunderhawks missed their last seven free throws to let Colerain back into the game. Colerain cut the score to one point with eight seconds remaining, but Lakota East was able to run out the time to survive, and improve to 4-0.

Senior guard Stedman Lowry led the way for the Thunderhawks, scoring a team-high 12 points. Joining him in double-digit scoring were juniors Myo Baxter and Alex White, who each scored 10 points.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Lakota West improved to 4-1 (2-1 in the GMC) this season with a 55-41 win against Colerain and Lakota East fell to 0-5 (0-2 in the GMC) with a 52-40 loss against Princeton.

Lakota West outscored host Colerain 33-21 in the second half to pull away and improve to 4-1 this season. Lakota West was led by sophomore guard Lauren Cannatelli’s team-high 19 points. Colerain was led by sophomore guard Kaylee Allen’s game-high 23 points.

The Thunderhawks, on the other hand, couldn’t keep up with Princeton – despite the Vikings playing without their star player Kelsey Mitchell, who was out with injury.

As a team, Lakota East made only 11 of its 44 field goal attempts (25 percent).
