A drunk driving checkpoint will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 a.m. Friday night through Saturday on Ohio 4 north of Wilbraham Road in Middletown, the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced this morning.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced Thursday morning that there would be a checkpoint somewhere in Butler County on Friday.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

“Based on 2011 provisional data, there were 369 OVI-related fatal traffic crashes that killed 399 people last year in Ohio,” Lieutenant Ed Mejia, commander of the Hamilton Post said. “State troopers make on average 24,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers. OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”
