Dorothy Jones listens as her son Ethan, 7, reads a book at their home in West Chester. Dorothy lost her vision and wishes for computer equipment that reads text out loud. Photo taken by Leigh Taylor.
Leigh Taylor reports:
Dorothy Jones of West Chester is a mother of three who lost her vision in 2001 following an operation to reduce pressure on her brain. This was life-altering for Dorothy, her husband and children, who were infants and toddlers at the time.
Although she has been through a lot, Dorothy maintains a positive attitude with humor. She does everything in her power to retain her independence.
Nominated by Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Dorothy wishes for an Eye Pal solo (about $3,300), which reads hard copy documents aloud.
One of her daily challenges is helping her kids with their homework. Dorothy says, “If I got the software, I could be more independent and read some things on my own. Homework is important to me, and I could help my kids with it.”
