Lakota West grad continues cross country success

College of Mount St. Joseph freshman Amanda Shelby earned an individual at-large spot in the 2012 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships when she placed 15th overall at the regional meet at Anderson University Saturday.

Shelby’s finished the race in 22 minutes and eight seconds, which broke the previous school record of 24:29 held by Jessica Biedenbender.

The previous Saturday, Nov. 3, Shelby finished second overall at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference championships in Bluffton, Ohio, on a very wet and muddy course.

Her second-place finish broke another school record and was the best finish in school history at the conference meet. Shelby was also named HCAC Freshman of the Year.

The 2012 NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships will be held this Saturday, Nov. 17, at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind.
