Lakota athletes dubbed Enquirer spring prep all stars

The Cincinnati Enquirer released its list of spring all stars in Tuesday’s print edition, honoring 25 Lakota student athletes. The Enquirer named seven Lakota athletes as first teamers in their respected sports and selected 18 others as honorable mentions.

The Enquirer also named Lakota East senior Zach Mueck as its Division I Boys’ Tennis Player of the Year. Mueck finished as the state runner-up for the third consecutive year. Mueck also won his third straight district title and had a 21-1 record this season. Mueck will continue his career at Xavier.

Division I First Team selections:

  • Zak Farmer (Lakota West, baseball) – The senior pitcher was named second-team all-state and first-team all-GMC in 2012. He led the Firebirds in at-bats (107), hits (44), doubles (9) and in batting average (.411). On the mound, he also led the team in innings pitched (59.1), wins (7) and strikeouts (59).
  • Michael Conrad (Lakota East, baseball) – The University of Cincinnati signee struck out 100 batters in 61.1 innings of work in 2012. He also complied a 5-2 win-loss record with a 1.83 earned run average. Conrad was also named second-team all-state and first-team all-GMC.
  • Lea Buckenmyer (Lakota East, softball) – The junior pitcher was second-team all-state and first-team all-GMC in 2012. On the mound, she posted a 19-7 win-loss record, struck out 133 hitters in 164 innings, had eight shutouts and had a 1.20 ERA. At the plate, Buckenmyer led her team and the GMC in runs batted in with 43. She also led her team in doubles (14), on-base percentage (.481) and batting average (.432).
  • Ashley Sharp (Lakota West, softball) – The sophomore was honorable mention all-state and first-team all-GMC in 2012. Sharp led the GMC in wins with 20 (win-loss record was 20-5). She also struck out 178 batters in 173.1 innings – had 11 shutouts and a 1.09 ERA. At the plate, Sharp led Lakota West in home runs (3) and in runs batted in (21).
  • Autumn Heath (Lakota East, track) – The sophomore sprinter placed in two events at the 2012 state meet. Heath finished fifth in the 100-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter dash. She was selected first-team all-GMC for three different events.
  • Zack Mueck (Lakota East, tennis) – The senior finished as the state runner-up for the third consecutive year. Mueck also won his third straight district title and had a 21-1 record this season. Mueck will continue his career at Xavier.
  • Nick Lang (Lakota West, tennis) – The junior was named second-team all-GCTCA in singles. According to the GMC website, Lang was 7-2 at No.1 singles and 14-3 overall. Finished in first place in his flight in the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association Tournament.

Division I Honorable Mention selections:

  • Derek Baker (Lakota East, baseball) – The junior was the Thunderhawks other starting pitching option in 2012 – posting a 7-2 win-loss record, 38 strikeouts in 40.1 innings and a 3.12 ERA. He was also named first-team all-GMC.
  • Brett Colburn (Lakota East, baseball) – The junior was second on the Thunderhawks in runs scored (25). He also posted a .390 on-base percentage and a .291 batting average in 2012. Colburn was first-team all-GMC.
  • Alex Corna (Lakota East, baseball) – The first-team all-GMC senior led the GMC with seven home runs. He also led his team with 26 runs and a .527 on-base percentage. Corna has signed on to play at Ohio University.
  • Blake Wilder (Lakota East, baseball) – The senior led Lakota East in at-bats (99), hits (34), triples (11) and runs batted in (34). He also posted a .404 on-base percentage and a .343 batting average. Wilder was named first-team all-GMC in 2012.
  • Troy Dombart (Lakota West, baseball) – The senior was named first-team all-GMC and led Lakota West in runs batted in (23). He also was second on the team in hits (32) and posted a .385 on-base percentage and a .344 batting average in 2012.
  • Ainsley Ellison (Lakota East, softball) – The senior finished second in the GMC and first on her team with 43 hits in 2012. She also led Lakota East in runs scored (34). The first-team all-GMC selection had a .430 batting average and a .467 on-base percentage.
  • Alyssa Grevenkamp (Lakota East, softball) – The senior hit .337 and had a .398 on-base percentage in 2012. She was a first-team all-GMC selection. Grevenkamp will play basketball at the University of Findlay.
  • Kim Rollins (Lakota East, softball) – The senior hit .352 and had a .434 on-base percentage in 2012. She was a first-team all-GMC selection. Rollins was second on the team in runs batted in with 27.
  • Alyssa Hedric (Lakota West, softball) – The sophomore leadoff hitter led Lakota West in doubles (10) and co-led the team in runs scored (24). The first-team all-GMC selection posted a .306 batting average and a .427 on-base percentage.
  • Amanda Lahti (Lakota West, softball) – The senior was named first-team all-GMC in 2012. She also co-led her team in runs scored with 24. The Ohio Northern signee posted a .333 batting average and a .423 on-base percentage.
  • Nathan Haynes (Lakota West, track) – The senior runner qualified to represent Lakota West at the state meet in 2012. The first-team all-GMC selection has signed on to run at the Naval Academy.
  • William Wilson (Lakota West, track) – The junior qualified to represent the Firebirds in the high jump at the state meet in 2012. Wilson was named honorable mention in the GMC for the high jump.
  • Lauren Buck (Lakota East, track) – The senior qualified to compete in two events (discus and shot put) at the state meet in 2012. Buck was named 2012 GMC Girls’ Track Athlete of the Year.
  • Celeste Bronson (Lakota East, track) – The junior qualified to compete in the 300-meter hurdles at the state meet in 2012. Bronson was second-team all-GMC for her participation on 400-meter relay team.
  • Chris Waflart (Lakota West, tennis) – The No. 1 doubles team, with teammate Brian Griffiths, struggled for most of the spring. However, the duo finished in second place in their flight in the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association Tournament.
  • Brian Griffiths (Lakota West, tennis) – The No. 1 doubles team, with teammate Chris Waflart, struggled for most of the spring. However, the duo finished in second place in their flight in the Greater Cincinnati Tennis Coaches Association Tournament.
  • Colin Sasthav (Lakota East, tennis) – The No. 1 doubles team, with senior teammate Connor Fraley, was 10-2 in the spring.
  • Connor Fraley (Lakota East, tennis) – The No. 1 doubles team, with sophomore teammate Colin Sasthav, was 10-2 in the spring.
