Police continuing to investigate punk rock brawl

The West Chester Police Department is continuing to investigate the punk rock concert that resulted in a brawl at a local dance studio Dec. 1.

Police anticipate charges being filed from the fight that resulted in several minor injuries.

Meanwhile, West Chester Community Development officials say the concert was not permitted under the business’ current B-1 zoning.

“The dance studio is within close proximity to residential housing and therefore this type of concert hall use would not have been permitted,” Community Development Director Mike Juengling said.

The dance studio, Planet Dance Uptown, had been hosting concerts under the name The Venue 42. Representatives of The Venue 42 declined to comment and the West Chester location has been taken off its website.

A release from West Chester Township said that it is working closely with the tenant and the property owner to ensure similar situations do not occur. The release also says that the tenant has been cooperative throughout the process.

“West Chester works cooperatively with businesses and will lend assistance to ensure commercial activity is conducted in a manner consistent with zoning and enhances the quality of life our residents have come to expect and enjoy,” said Township Administrator Judi Boyko.

“Township personnel are working diligently to identify and hold the responsible parties accountable and to relay this type of activity will not be tolerated.”

On the night of the concert, the Straight Edgers, a punk rock fan group with a drug free belief, clashed with followers of another punk rock group known as Swing On Sight. Approximately 150 people were in attendance.

Anyone with information about this incident can contact the West Chester Police Department at 513-777-2231.
