The Lakota East volleyball program moved up in the Division I Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association poll for the second straight week.
This week Lakota East was voted into a three-way tie for sixth place. Last week, the Thunderhawks were ranked No. 10. The week before, East was No. 18.
If Lakota East (18-1 overall, 8-0 in the Greater Miami Conference) can win against Mason (9-12 overall, 6-2 in the GMC) on the road Tuesday, it will capture its first GMC title since 2008.
The Thunderhawks will also have an opportunity to move up in the state poll when it will face No. 2 Mount Notre Dame (16-4 overall, 8-1 in the Girls Greater Cincinnati League) on the road Thursday at 6 p.m. in final match of the regular season.
The postseason will begin for Lakota East next Thursday, Oct. 20, when it will face the winner of the Anderson/Northwest match at Lakota West High School at 7:30 p.m.
If the Thunderhawks advance, they will likely play St. Ursula (13-8 overall, 5-4 in the GGCL) – also currently ranked No. 6 in the state – Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Lakota West.
