This Tuesday, Dec. 7, a member of the Butler County Auditor’s Office, reminded members of the West Chester Township community at its board of trustees meeting that 2011 dog tags are currently on sale for $14 each from now until Jan. 31.
The new licenses went on sale Dec. 1. After Jan. 31, a late fee will be added to the total cost increasing the amount to $28.
The 2011 dog licenses are available for purchase at the Butler County Auditor’s Office, located on the fourth floor of the county Administration Building, 130 High Street in Hamilton. Those wishing to purchase tags online may do so at www.butlercountyauditor.org. Official county dog tags are also available at more than 50 locations across the county. The complete list of agents is available on the auditor’s website.
The auditor’s office is currently accepting MasterCard and Visa on its website.
It is the law in Ohio that all dogs three months of age and older be licensed through the auditor’s office. When an animal control officer finds a licensed dog running loose they can look up the information and make sure the dog is returned safely home. If a dog is found without a current license the animal may be impounded.
The auditor’s office mailed renewal forms to approximately 30,000 county residents who registered 37,874 dogs in 2010. The form includes information on how to renew or cancel a tag in addition to adding a new dog. Renewal forms postmarked by Jan. 31, 2011, will not be considered late. Those persons receiving a renewal notice who no longer own a dog may disregard the form.
