People close to Jimmy Lallathin were already passionate about Miami University, but now they have another reason as Lallathin was recently promoted to assistant men’s basketball coach at the school.

Influenced by his parents, who both graduated from MU, Lallathin was a big fan of the school at an early age.

“I grew up coming to these games with my parents,” Lallathin said. “With them being very proud alums, we came up all the time. We came up for football games, homecomings and basketball games.”

Not only did his parents attend Miami, but his wife also graduated from MU. Overall, there are nine instances in his family where a Miami grad married another.

“It is an unbelievable opportunity to work at a school that you really love,” Lallathin said. “To work here, without having to move, is such a good opportunity. It is better than I could ever imagine.”

Lallathin grew up in West Chester and played basketball at Lakota High School. He then went on to play at Marietta College for two seasons before transferring to Miami.

While at Miami, he coached at Lakota Ridge Junior High and met his wife, Robyn, who was also coaching there at the time.

Later, he moved on to coach at Lakota West High School as an assistant coach for three seasons.

He then landed a job at Miami, where he played the role of administrative assistant in 2007 and as the program’s director of operations in 2008.

The promotion was announced in a release earlier this month on the school’s official athletic website, www.muredhawks.com.

“Jimmy brings a great amount of energy and enthusiasm to the position and will make a seamless transition as an assistant coach,” Miami head coach Charlie Coles said in the release.

“Over the last three years, he has been innovative with his duties and has helped elevate us in many aspects of the program. His can-do attitude makes him a pleasure to work with day-in and day-out, and I look forward to him furthering his career with us in this position.”
